More on Our Guests:

Gil Scott Heron by Mischa Richter

Gil Scott Heron

Many have shared the impact this soul has had on their lives.  I play a excerpt from my all time favorite Message to The Messengers., I think I’ll CallIt Morning.

Bonus:  If you go to his website www.gilscottheron.net and at the top sign up for his mailing list, you get a free download of a song you may not have heard:  Where Did the Night Go?

I remembered Doc Barnett Williams who used to play percussion along with Gil and when I looked him up was sad to learn that he preceded Gil Scott in death in 2006.  Read More Here in the Washington Post

Our Adoption Story

"Boo" Not her real name

Mom, Rory McKellar-Mullen, blogger

Many people have asked about our adoption story. In short, we don’t really have much of one. Once we embarked on our adoption path it took almost no time (in the adoption world) to be placed with our lovely little girl. In fact, buying our house took way longer (we bought a short sale); and I have to say we signed more paperwork for the house than we did for our daughter, but that’s another story!

The journey that brought us to adoption was also a short one. Our plan was to have one birth child and adopt the rest. Well, we did have our one birth child, a son, in 2006. Sadly, though, he was stillborn. It was a devastating blow to the family, but has since brought with it great blessings.

After mourning our loss, we continued onward with our original plan to “adopt the rest” by attending our first adoption information meeting in October 2007 with the intent to foster-adopt. I approached the adoption paperwork with great vigor  (I’m one of those crazy people who loves paperwork) and managed to complete our packet within 3 weeks, fingerprints, training, and all. All we had to do was wait for our letters of recommendation to come in and then our home-study was scheduled for November 14th. Surprisingly, on December 10, 2007 a year to the day of our son’s original due date, we received a phone call that a healthy 3-day-old girl was relinquished at the hospital and would we be interested in submitting our home-study for her. Absolutely! Only problem was, our home-study was not yet written! Thanks to some hard work by our social worker our home-study was quickly finished and submitted for consideration. Three days later we were informed that we had been selected by the match coordinator and we picked up Boo from the adoption agency, at a mere 6 days old. In total, our whole adoption journey from information meeting to bringing Boo home was 2 months. It took us 9 months from offering on our house until we finally moved in!

So you can see that our story is a little unique among adoption stories. In God’s time, we hope to grow our family again through adoption.

Lil Wayne Recording Music with Daughter Reginae

Lil Wayne and his daughter

In light of today’s lead discussion, here is Lil Wayne with his daughter. Allegedly, he was recently accused of saying that he would never date a dark skinned girl.  The brown women to whom he is reported to have made those statements countered with–what about your daughter?  She is brown!  He said he would never have another daughter that was dark.  Allegedly. Here is the story

“…He then said “my daughter is a dark skin millionaire thats the difference between her and u”. Is this fool serious?

I can tell he was very upset because i brought his daughter up but that is no excuse for what he said next he stated “MY daughter is the first and last dark skin child im having, the rest of my baby moms light skin chicks i even got an asian baby moms to make sure i have a daughter with good hair, too bad we had a son”, everybody start laughing and me and jessica stormed out of the room and some guys followed us saying “not everybody hate dark skin girls Young Money just allergic to Chocolate”, of course me and my girls cursed them out.”

A video response;

Here are the lyrics to Lil Jon’s Song:

ye Uh huh
Uh Huh(Let’s go ladies)
Lil Jon(Yeah)
Your Boy Kells

And Mario

This is for the Chocolate girls
All Around the word
Every block
Every club
Every hood
I’m in love

[Verse 1]
So sweet, so round, so thick
So nasty ooh I love that shit
So smooth, so creamy
Goddamn it I must be dreaming
So jiggly, so soft
Goddamn it I wanna break you off
So hot you gon melt
Eat you all up by myself
Girl I can’t wait to unwrap ya
It’s a chocolate fix I’m after
So tasty, my treat
Miss Chocolate let me get a little piece
I’m cuckoo for cocoa
So good I want me some more
I’m caught up
I need to stop it
Goddamn I love you Miss Chocolate!

Bonus tip: My iPhone headphones hung in for most of the year since I got it last June, but it bit the dust.  So on my husband’s recommendation I went to the Apple store, (ran into an editor I hope to be working with, chatted with CCH Pounder,) presented my mangled headphones and they GAVE me a fresh pair.  But you must do it before June if that is when you got yours!
